Bliss, absolute!

The Correze department of France

We are in the Correze
The department of Correze forms part of the Limousin region of France. From the mysterious moors of the Millevaches plateau to the rolling hills of the Pays de Brive with its mild climate and verdant valleys, the Correze offers a great variety of landscapes. It is still relatively unknown as a holiday destination. Here's your chance to holiday in the green heart of France.

To See and Do

Activites and the Surrounding Area

Walking in the CorrezeWalking:  there are some incredibly beautiful walks right on the doorstep.  If you are adventurous there are hills to climb with the reward of incredible views of the mountains of the Massif Centrale; there are valleys to descend and then the rewards of ruined fortresses, enormous dams and lakes.  If you prefer a gentle stroll there are soft undulating walks through woods and fields where you can reward yourself with a feast of mushrooms if the conditions are right. Guided walks are also provided upon request, or we can advise you about walks that you might enjoy.

Painting:  this area is a painter's paradise and the sun-sets can bring a lump to your throat.

Bicycling:  The Cottage offers two bicycles for your use.  If you require anymore they can be hired in Argentat (20 minutes away). Find out more about cycling in the Correze.

Riding:  there are two riding stables within 10 minutes drive.  One of them provides "western" riding, with special horses and we highly recommend this.  The Sagiran stables is our favourite and it is possible for us to arrange for you to "rent" a horse for the whole of your stay, so you can ride whenever you like. Find out more about riding in the Xaintrie.

Swimming:  a fifteen minute drive will take you to two lakes with sandy beaches; pedalloes, canoes, and other entertainments can be found here.  There are also two outdoor 25 meter swimming pools within the same distance (only open in July and August).

Tennis: every commune in France has a tennis court.  The cost per hour is usually 5 euros and the key is collected from the local Mairie.

On horseback in the CorrezeCanoeing and Kayaking:  20 minutes down the hill is the very picturesque town of Argentat.  It is situated on the Dordogne river and is the ideal place for canoeing and kayaking.  There are various points along the river where you can rent a canoe or kayake.  You will then be picked up and dropped off back at your car from and to a point of your choice.  The lakes also provide various "boating" activities.  If you want to spend the day on the water I can bring you a picnic at lunchtime at a meeting point previously decided.  I will, of course, then disappear until an appointed time for me to collect the rubbish from you, and you can continue on your way.

Fishing:  we can get you a fishing permit (not expensive) and you can while away your days in the river (the closest being the Dordogne and the Maronne).  We have two sets of waders for your use.

Golf:  there are various golf courses within a one hour drive; two of which are very beautiful.  There is also a Pitch and Putt.  We have a good set of golf clubs that you can borrow.  If you want someone to play with my husband will be glad to oblige!

Sightseeing:  there a numerous historic sites to visit as well as a newly built medieval village which is only 10 minutes away.  We love this!  It has been built entirely by hand, using only the materials that would have been available in medieval times.  You can walk around freely and go in and out of the houses that are fully furnished as in the day.  There are also freely roaming farm animals, including their young and a herb garden that makes your mind boggle.

City Visits:  We have two beautiful cities that are worth a visit.  Brive is one hour away and is a beautiful cathedral city with friendly people and numerous small shops and restaurants.  Aurillac is in the adjacent department of the Cantal and is very different.  Also worth a visit as is much higher up and has a mountain feel to it.  It is approximately one hour's drive to the centre of town.

Markets:  The best local market is on Thursdays in Argentat.  This market is wonderful and encompasses everything you can think of.  It is, naturally, smaller in the winter months. Brive market is every Saturday and Tuesday. You could also do a market tour and visit towns that you wish to see on market days.

Festivals:  Throughout the summer months there are local events that are worth visiting.

Eating out:  as with all of France there are numerous restaurants offering local cuisine: duck and foie gras being the most famous delicacies of the area.

Ultra-light rides:  there is an ultra-light station about 30 minutes away.

Driving:  all journeys are a pleasure as the countryside is consistently stunning and traffic is minimal, even in high season.

Therapeutic retreats:  we will be offering therapeutic retreats at various times of the year.  These weeks will be exceptional and will offer excellent food and therapies from highly respected professionals.  These will be posted on our Events page.
